DECISION MAKING

A teacher explained to us the importance of decision-making, so I want to explain it to you too.

The phases in the decision-making process are:

  1. Intelligence phase.
  2. Design, modeling or conception phase.
  3. Selection phase.
  4. Implementation phase.
  5. Review phase.

1. Intelligence phase

It consists of identifying and defining the problem for which a solution is required. (Greenwood 1978)

First, a complete internal and external analysis is carried out to find the fundamental origin of the problem.

We must bear in mind that this analysis depends on the way in which the decision maker perceives the problem, that is, he selects, receives, organizes and interprets the information.

It is necessary to collect all available data about the problem to optimize the usefulness of the information.

2. Design, modeling or conception phase

All possible alternatives, strategies or courses of action are identified and listed.

We must do an exhaustive analysis of the problem, recommending the opinion of several people with different points of view, so that there can be no unidentified alternatives.

3. Selection phase

It consists of choosing an alternative.

All lines of action are evaluated taking into account the concordance of the objectives of your community and the resources.

In addition, the chosen alternative must be feasible and contribute to solving the problem.

Possible future problems and the consequences associated with each of the alternatives must be taken into account.

Of course, this selection is made based on the quantity and quality of information available for this purpose.

4. Implementation phase

The actions that the chosen option entails are developed to solve the problem.

5. Review phase

It is used to check if the implementation of the decision is the most appropriate and if the desired results are achieved.

A control is carried out evaluating the past actions and if something is not correct, the process is restarted.
